At the Ground Handling International (GHI) of 2022 held in Amsterdam, several airlines visited our stand and commented ‘’So, you are the local hero at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol?’’ Since then, the term ‘local hero’ has been around. Viggo is a national ground handler operating in the Netherlands for more than 50 years. We are a family-owned company with a unique family culture handling over 65.000 flights a year. At Viggo we truly look after each other and by doing so we can deliver the best service to our customers.
As a local company with 1.300 colleagues, we have a strong and professional local management at the airports we serve. Since there is no heavy corporate organization, decision-making is very fast and effective, making us highly adaptable to the changing challenges of the industry. All levels of our organization are well connected to airport management and operations. This enables us to work in an effective triangle with the customer airline, the airport and Viggo.
Thanks to our local presence we have very close and strong partnerships with all local education institutions. This gives a constant supply of enthusiastic young people who start working at Viggo as a side job or an internship. Many of these students stay for the full length of their study or beyond. When positions are available when graduated, some of them become fulltime team members in the operation, middle management or in a management support function. Sometimes one of them makes it to the CEO position of the company, as our current CEO was once a working student himself.
