Together, we are making aviation better and more enjoyable
Our goal? To be completely emission-free with all our equipment by 2030. As a ground handler and business partner, we take our responsibility for sustainability seriously, both for the current and the next generation. The first steps towards that goal have already been taken: Viggo operates the most sustainable equipment fleet in Western Europe, we were the first handler in Europe to introduce the e-GPU (a 100% emission-free Ground Power Unit) and at Schiphol we are the first handler to use a 100% electric towing truck for widebody aircraft. We are continuously taking steps, where an efficient and safe operation with a focus on the environment is our priority.
Our equipment park consists of many items that have been created or improved through co-creation with suppliers. As a result, our fleet of equipment therefore meets the highest standards of safety, reliability and sustainability. We remain observant in monitoring innovations in this field. We are actively planning tests and trials for promising solutions in the near future.
Goldhofer AST-2 E
We have added two Goldhofers AST-2 E to our equipment fleet, a fully electric towing truck, which is able to handle pushbacks widebody aircrafts. With the use of the Goldhofer AST-2 E aircrafts such as the Airbus A350 and 787 Dreamliner can be pushed or towed from the gate in a sustainable manner. We take pride in being the first ground handler at Schiphol to introduce a 100% electrical towing truck for widebody aircrafts
The AST 2-E reduces emissions and fuel consumption thanks to its built-in GPU, eliminating the need for aircrafts to use the APU during towing.
e-GPU
Our equipment park consists of items that have been created or improved through co-creation with suppliers. As a result, our fleet of equipment therefore meets the highest standards of safety, reliability and sustainability. In 2018, in cooperation with ITW GSE, we introduced the very first all-electric GPU (ITW GSE 7400) at Eindhoven Airport, making us the first handler in Europe with a 100% emission-free Ground Power Unit. Viggo provided input around the functional specifications on how the GPU could be used in day-today operations.
The ITW GSE 7400 in a nutshell:
World's first Li-ion battery-powered GPU
Reduces CO2 emissions by 90% and NOx emissions by 95% (compared to diesel-powered GPUs)
Zero-noise
